One of the best ways to see the city however, is on foot. Your York hotel should provide leaflets about the city, but you can also go on a guided walking tour which will ensure that you learn a bit of history too. York has a number of tours available, including Ghost hunting walks and Roman, Viking and Medieval themed walks.

Most tours take place throughout the year (excluding Christmas), and there are both daytime and evening walks available.

If you got recommended a sight-seeing trip then you should check out cities with a long history and deep rooted culture. Why not try a city to the Beautiful Madrid. Whilst hosting a modern infrastructure, mardird has preserved the look and feel of many of its historic neighbourhoods and streets. There are lots of hotels in Madrid which are part of the history themselves, the Prado Hotel is a converted neoclassical building with old world charm and is conveniently located along the Paseo del Prado (a main boulevard in Madrid) and Madrid’s best night life. Madrid’s historical landmarks include the Royal Palace of Madrid; the Teatro Real (Royal theatre) with its restored 1850 Opera House; the Buen Retiro park, founded in 1631; and the Golden Triangle of Art, located along the Paseo del Prado and comprising three art museums: Prado Museum, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, a museum of modern art, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.

If you got recommended the sun lover city break then why not check out locations in Greece or Portugal. Greece receives lots of sunshine, for which it is rightly famous, and prolonged stretches of rainy weather are uncommon. For the most part, the weather follows a typical Mediterranean climate pattern with hot, dry summers and mild rainy winters. The best time to visit is between April and September for hot and dry weather.

If you got recommended a shopping diva holiday then think about holidaying in one of the major fashion cities of the world, for example, Paris, London, or Milan. However, if your shopping budget doesn’t stretch to designer labels then why not consider Manchester. Manchester is famous for its shops and especially for its large collection of jewellery shops. There are several Manchester hotels which are conveniently located near the city centre so you won’t need to walk far to begin your shopping spree! The town centre is the best place to visit for boutiques and unique items, if the weather is bad head to Manchester Arndale (the UK’s largest inner-city shopping centre) or the Trafford Centre.

What other cities can you recommend for sight-seeing, sun lovers and shopping divas?
